Welcome to Prep/1 D
Hello
We would like to welcome you to the 2023 school year! To help make this a very successful and rewarding year please see below some important information/reminders. We are looking forward to working with you and your child. There are two Prep/1 classes. P/1D (Shanice Drummond) and P/1W (Kate Watson). There will also be a teacher aide working in the class to assist with supporting and engaging students in their learning.
Morning routine
Students will wait for their class teacher in the UCA as the classroom is out of bounds before school. School starts promptly at 8.40am. If your child arrives after 8.45am you will need to sign them in at the office. We stop for fruit break around 10am every morning. We encourage students to have a piece of fruit or vegetable during this time. Please pack the healthy snack in a separate named container.
Resources/booklist
Please send all items to school. We store spare items in the classroom for when your child requires more materials. All books and equipment are needed to make the start of the school year run as smoothly as possible.
Attendance
Attendance is very important especially in the early years. We understand that children get tired, however unless they are sick we encourage you to continue sending them, especially at the start of the year when we are becoming familiar with our class routines. This will help in building their capacity for learning. If your child is absent from school, please inform the office.
Behaviour
Class behaviour chart – Your child will move their name up the class behaviour chart for displaying positive behaviour. They will move their name down the chart for displaying behaviour that requires redirecting as a reminder to display positive behaviour.
School rules – Be safe, Be a learner, Be Respectful and Be Responsible
Homework
Homework folders need to come to school every day as important notes and information are sent home this way. Homework this term includes the following:

General reminders
- Students must bring their hat to school every day.
- Please refrain from coming to the classroom in the afternoon to collect your child, rather please wait at your chosen pick up zone (stop, drop and go, crossing or parent plaza).
- Please leave all toys and valuables at home where they are safe.
- Please send a water bottle to school. This minimises the need to leave the classroom during learning time to get a drink.
Contact
Please remember your thoughts, concerns and questions are important to us. If you wish to talk to either of us, please see below ways to make contact as during the mornings we need this time to get the students in and settled to start learning.

Seesaw: Seesaw is an app that we use to communicate between home and school. It is a place where we share student work, photos and important information. Please be aware that it is individual, therefore other students cannot see your child's individual work and photos. Please see attached further information regarding how to access/set up seesaw.
Looking forward to a great year ahead.
Shanice and Kate 😊
