Welcome to Prep/1 D
We would like to welcome you to the 2022 school year! To help make this a very successful and rewarding year please see below some important information/reminders. We are looking forward to working with you and your child. There are two Prep/1 classes, Prep/1 D and Prep/1 W. There will also be a teacher aide working in the class to assist with supporting and engaging students in their learning.
Students will wait for their class teacher in the UCA as the classroom is out of bounds before school. School starts promptly at 8:40am. If your child arrives after 8:45am you will need to sign them in at the office. We stop for a fruit break around 10am every morning. We encourage students to have a piece of fruit or vegetable during this time. Please pack the healthy snack in a separate container.
Please send all items to school. We store spare items in the classroom for when your child requires more materials. All books and equipment are needed to make the start of the school year run as smoothly as possible.
Attendance is very important especially in the early years. We understand that children get tired or get sick, however unless it is serious or contagious we encourage you to continue sending them, especially at the start of the year when we are getting used to our class routines. This will help in building their capacity for learning. If your child is absent from school, please inform the office.
Class Dojo - your child will receive a dojo point for displaying positive behaviour. Once they reach 25 dojo points they will be awarded a Woodhill Gotcha.
School Rules - Be safe, Be a learner, Be respectful and Be responsible.
Homework folders need to come to school every day as important notes and information is sent home this way. Homework will be sent home in week 3. Topics we will be covering this term include:
Prep - Math: count, recognise and write numbers to 20
English: Letters and sounds
Year 1 - Math: Count, recognise and write numbers to 100. Practise skip counting in 2's, 5's and 10'2.
English: Sight words and home readers will begin term 1 week 3
Opportunities later in the year may arise to assist within the classroom. This could be to help with reading groups, maths groups, changing home readers etc. If you are interested please let us know and we can forward you the information about parent helper induction sessions and times.
Students must bring their hat to school every day
Please drop off and wait for your child at the parent plaza (located under the shebang), not the classroom
Please leave all toys and valuables at home where they are safe
Please send a water bottle to school. This minimises the need to leave the classroom during learning time to get a drink.
Please remember your thoughts, concerns and questions are important to us. If you wish to talk to either of us, please see below ways to make contact as morning time is not appropriate. We need this time to get the students in and settled to start learning.
